Wind Vehicles - 1st Grade

1st Grade engineers

Engineering concepts should start early -- early in education and play.  In this activity, the engineers in Ms. Jenkin's first grade classroom are engaged in creating vehicles that operate on wind power.

no need to reinvent the wheel

Students have a piece of packing material, straws, index cards and blue tape (what would we do without blue tape?!) to create their vehicle.  Here's the lesson plan, courtesy of Engineering is Elementary.  

If you want to do this activity with older students, a piece of paper, two straws and 4 lifesavers are more challenging materials.  Here's a student design sheet for that activity.
